Mike Farris
Biography
Mike Farris is a literary agent with Farris Literary Agency. Mike has been a practicing attorney in Dallas, Texas, since graduating cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1983. Upon graduating in the top 10 percent of his class, and having served as an associate editor on the school’s Law Review, he was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif. He then practiced law for fifteen years with one of the largest law firms in Dallas and was named a partner after six years. He left the firm at the end of 1997 to pursue other interests, including literary interests. Mike is currently of counsel with the Dallas law firm Vincent Lopez Serafino Jenevein, P.C., where his practice includes complex commercial litigation, as well as entertainment law, focusing on the movie and publishing industries.
Mike is an adjunct professor at the University of Dallas in its Sports & Entertainment Management MBA program and serves on the university’s Sports & Entertainment Advisory Board. He is a past chairman of the Dallas Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Law Section. Mike is also an award-winning screenwriter and a writer of non-fiction. In 2003, he collaborated with former ABC-TV anchorman Murphy Martin on Martin’s memoir of his years in journalism, entitled Front Row Seat: A Veteran Reporter Relives the Four Decades That Reshaped America (Eakin Press 2003). In 2009, he collaborated with Bob Hinkle to write Hinkle’s memoir, Call Me Lucky: A Texan in Hollywood for the University of Oklahoma Press (2009).
