Established in 2007, Max & Co. Literary Agency was founded and run by Michael Murphy who sought new new and established writers of both fiction and nonfiction books. Fiction book genres represented by Michael Murphy and Max & Co. Literary Agency included literary fiction only. Nonfiction book genres represented by Michael Murphy and Max & Co. Literary Agency included memoir, narrative nonfiction, humor, and satire. Michael Murphy and Max & Co. Literary Agency did not represent genre fiction or children’s books, including young adult books.
Prior to his founding Max & Co. Literary Agency, Michael Murphy worked for Queen Literary Agency. Michale Murphy has been in book publishing since 1981 including thirteen years he spent with Random House, where he was a vice president. He also served as the publisher for William Morrow, prior to the publisher being acquired by HarperCollins.
Some of the books Michael Murphy and Max & Co. Literary Agency sold include: Down and Out on Murder Mile by Tony O’Neill (HarperCollins); Hero of the Underground by Jason Peter (St. Martin’s); Family Sentence by Jeanine Cornillot (Beacon Press); and Familial Ground (Princeton Architectural).
